Notes
Liner Notes:Pure Reggae Volume 2 is the essential reggae compilation, containing a potent hybrid of the lates reggae, dancehall, lovers and ragga; Pure Reggae is the biggest hits, the greatest artists and the most well know contemporary producers.
The jewel in the crown of Pure Reggae Volume 2 is Beres Hammond's "Over You", a true modern reggae classic. Hammond's soothing vocals sent "Over You" to the top of the British Reggae Charts for an unprecedented seventeen weeks making it the biggest reggae hit of 1996.
Producer Jah Screw has revamped Barringston Levy's "Living Dangerously" with a ninety's flavour. Screw's dancehall rhythms provide the perfect backdrop for Levy's tangy vocals, interspersed with Bounty Killer's distinctive tones.
Top ten UK soul act Damage are included via an exclusive reggae mix of their new single "Forever", courtesy of the production team at Fashion, whilst Beenie Man experiences solo success with the frenzied verbal assault of the Dave Kelly produced "New Suzuki". Following reggae classics such as "Old Dog" and "Slam", "New Suzuki" finds Beenie in top form over the Dugu Dugu Riddim.
Bounty Killer crops up again in combination with the rich and succulent vocals of Richie Stephens on the pre-chart number one single "Maniac", confirming his position as the King of Dancehall.
Captain Barkey resurrects his top five reggae chart hit "Go Go Wine" introducing a Latin Macarena flavour and in the process giving us a modern dancehall anthem.
The UK's finest vocalists make thier own contribution through Peter Hunningale's top five hit "Love Is Here To Stay", Leroy Mafia's "Wont You Come Home" and Don Campbell's top twenty hit "Find Me A Lover".
Pure Reggae Volume 2 also welcomes the return of two old favourites; Errol Dunkley experienced a national top twenty hit 1979 with John Holt's "OK Fred" and "Before You Walk Out Of My Life" shows the man to be in top form in 1996. Mykal Roze, formerly of the legendary black consciousness band Black Uhuru, gives us the spiritual uplifting vibe of "I Love King Selassie".
Dependable reggae favourites Frankie Paul "Tell Me What You Like", Dennis Brown "Hit And Run", Mikey Spice "Never Say Never", and Johnny Osbourne "Aint Gonna Break My Promise" also offer their own inimitable contributions to the Pure Reggae Experience.
Pure Reggae Volume 2 - the title is self-explanatory. Game Over!
