A Quick One was originally released as Reaction 593 002 on December 3, 1966. It reached #4 in the U.K. In the U.S., the release was held back until May 1967. The album was re-titled Happy Jack partly because the "Happy Jack" single had been a minor hit for The Who there and partly because Decca, their U.S. record company, objected to the double entendre in the original title. Released as Decca DL4892 (mono), DL74892 (stereo), it peaked at #51. Happy Jack was the same album as A Quick One except "Heatwave" was replaced by "Happy Jack."

Tracks 1 to 10 are from the original release.

Tracks 11 to 14 were released as the Ready Steady Who! EP in the U.K. on December 11, 1966 as Reaction # 592001.
Track 15 was released as the B-side of "Pictures of Lily" in the U.K. April 22, 1967 as Track Record single # 604002 and in the U.S. June 24, 1967 as Decca single # 32156.
Track 16 was released as the B-side of "Happy Jack" in the U.K. December 3, 1966 on Reaction single # 591010.
Track 17 was released as the B-side of "I'm a Boy" in the U.K. August 26, 1966 on Reaction single #591004 and in the U.S. on Decca single # 32058.

Tracks 19 and 20 are previously unreleased.
