Notes
℗ & © 1997 PolyGram Records, Inc. Manufactured and marketed by Verve Records, a division of PolyGram Classics and Jazz, a division of PolyGram Records, Inc. Printed in U.S.A.Tracks 10-20 are previously unissued alternative takes.
Trumpet on track 2, 5, 6, 7, and 8 is either Johnny Coles or Louis Mucci. Drums on these tracks is either Elvin Jones or Charli Persip. French Horn on these tracks is either Ray Alonge or Julius Watkins.
Tracks 1, 3, and 9 to 20 recorded at Van Gelder Recording Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on April 12, 1965; track 4 recorded on April 6, 1965; tracks 5 and 8 recorded on December 4, 1965; and tracks 2 and 6 recorded on December 15, 1965. Track 16 is a composite version made from the breakdown take 17 and an unslated insert recorded to be spliced on. The piano on tracks 12 and 13 was mixed to center sometime during the original session. The reason for this is unknown. Track 7 is clearly from one of these two sessions [i.e., December 4 or December 15, 1965]; however, it was entered into the master ledger with the date April 6, 1965, which may represent a date of some post production or re-recording.
Rights society for tracks 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, and 9 is ASCAP; it is BMI for track 5; tracks 2 and 7 are P.D.
