Notes

The recordings were all made during the dry season (December 1981 to February 1982) during a field trip of the Oral Traditions Laboratory of the French CNRS (Laboratoire de Civilisations à Tradition Orale, LACITO).

The field trip was among the Gbanzili and Mbugu in the villages between Kouango and Mobaye, on the Central African Republic bank of the Oubangui (tracks 1.1 to 2) or on the sandbanks in the river frequented by the fishermen of the region during the dry season (tracks 3.1 to 5.4). Tracks 6.1 to 6.14 were recorded in the encampments of the opposite bank of the Oubangui, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
